Lefton Lost Lights Collection, Scotch Cap, Alaska

The octagon Scotch Cap Lighthouse, completed in 1903, was the first major lighthouse built outside of the 48 states of the U.S. It was also considered the most remote of all American lighthouses. Located at the entrance to the Unimak Pass in the Aleutian Islands, it lasted until 1940, when it was replaced by a concrete lighthouse. The newer light only lasted until 1946 when it was destroyed by a giant tidal wave which also killed the five men stationed there.
